Into the line of fire

The tumultuous years of New Zealand Fire Brigades from 1947 to 2009

From Third Class Fireman in the Wellington Fire Brigade to Fire Force Commander in Auckland , Allan Bruce is well qualified to comment on the past 62 years of fire operations and management in New Zealand .

Four years in the making and 540 pages long with 120 photos, Into the line of fire details the dramatic evolution of the New Zealand Fire Service and covers events as diverse as the:

Ballantynes Fire
change from the Continuous Duty System to a 42 hour week roster
set up of the first National Training School in Island Bay
fight for women to become operational firefighters
ICI fire with its OSH ramifications
industrial disputes
Tamahere incident

Dedicated to career and volunteer firefighters, past and present, Into the line of fire retails for $49.50. However, Allan is offering a 15% discount to serving and retired firefighters making it $42.50.
